The Ping-Tong Lemon Marketing Cooperative was founded in March 1998 to facilitate the lemon industry and related businesses. Currently Taiwan devotes approximately 1,605 hectares of land to the cultivation of lemons, and Pingtung County is officially Taiwan’s lemon capital, with almost three-quarters of that land (1,169 hectares) cultivating lemons. Jiuru Township devotes 337 hectares to lemon cultivation, which is the largest area of land earmarked for lemon cultivation in a single town or village.

Currently, lemons are available all year round, and the area for domestic lemon cultivation increases steadily year after year. In 2004 it exceeded 1,600 hectares, putting greater and greater pressure on production facilities during peak season. Therefore, lemon exports are presently the co-operative's main priority.




To solve the problem of oversupplying during the peak season, the cooperative promotes a variety of lemon value-added products. Other than its best selling products of lemonade and pure lemon juice, the cooperative also provides other citrus products. Household cleaning products like liquid hand soap and dishwashing liquid are in good demand

Catering to the trend of theme leisure agriculture and for the purpose of public education, the cooperative establishes an exhibition room to introduce the origin, distribution, usage and benefit of lemon, making it a good choice for a school field trip.
