Across from Pingtung Airport, on the side of Provincial Highway No.3, Grand Blossom Grange (Dahua Organic Rose Farm) is the first farm on the island that devotes itself to planting organic roses. With 4.5 hectares in production, it is operated by Tien-Te Yang, a florist, professional rose grower, and award-winning floral designer.
Starting with an entrepreneurial spirit, Yang cultivated his organic rose farm in 2009 and the majority of his roses are edible. Although the initial reaction to his pioneering business was poor, he nevertheless became the first rose grower to receive organic certification from the MOA (Mokichi Okada International Association) and thereafter developed three rose cultivars (a cultivated variety of flower), named Dahua Nos. 1, 2, & 3. With delicate fruit aromas, these three roses are particularly fitted to the climate of Pingtung, and grown to produce various rose-based products.
Yang recognized that his farming business needed to be improved into the type of service business that merges the elements of recreational agriculture, tourism and leisure farming. With passion and persistence, he has developed his rose farm incorporating farming production, ecology, and education.
Roaming around the farm is an enchanting experience. Climbing roses named “Pink Happiness” bloom at the entrance, and every row is topped with plentiful roses. Since organic roses are also delightful to eat, Yang adds fresh rose petals to recipes and serves his visitors with savory refreshments. The farm is open to the public during the weekends and holds enjoyable activities, such as rose-picking tours, rose garland DIY, and tastings of rose sushi and fresh rose tea. Full of scenic beauty, fun and fascinating things to see and do; the farm not only develops unique types of leisure farming, but is also witness to the journey of a florist’s dream coming true.
