Agriculture is the primary economic activity in Northern Pingtung, consisting of Jiuru Township, Ligang Township, Gaoshu Township, and Yanpu Township. The area cultivates a wide variety of top-quality tropical fruits and flowers such as lemons, wax apples, pineapples, tomatoes, roses, and orchids.

　Located near the Orchid and Fern Bicycle Trail in Pingtung and the Buddha Memorial Center of Fo Guang Shan Monastery in Kaohsiung, Northern Pingtung attracts numerous cyclists and tourists on weekends. Many local businesses have begun to combine agriculture with leisure and educational activities to attract tourists. Many of them provide customers with opportunities to explore local agriculture, learn about local ecology protection, and have hands-on experience in craft making such as rose garlands and herb sachets.　

　Internationalization is a trend in developing tourism industries. To create a network of local businesses and attract more international tourists, the English Service Emblem Certification Program has been implemented to assist local businesses to provide English services.　


　The philosophy of the English Service Emblem Certification Program of Pingtung County in 2012 is “fun and relaxing,” focusing on the concept of English as an International Language (EIL), which emphasizes using English merely as a tool for communication. The spoken English training course was designed based on the needs of the participating businesses so that they can learn English related to themselves under no pressure. The businesses are expected to have the English ability to conduct basic conversations, talk about the characteristics of their businesses, and most important, actively offer help to international tourists without fear of speaking English.　

　It is hoped that the implementation of the English Service Emblem Certification Program will encourage local businesses to use English to promote their quality of service and internationalize the tourism industries of Pingtung County.
