Goals of the Project：

Pingtung has been dedicating itself to becoming a tourism county. With its exceptionally unique natural geographical and cultural environments (e.g., Hengchu, Kenting National Park and its sandy beaches, Sichong River hot springs, Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area, Sandimen, Maolin National Scenic Area), as well as industries with local characteristics, and a number of premium local specialties and treats (e.g., orchids, preserved dates, pineapples, wax apples, groupers, black tuna, and onions), Pingtung County Government plans to transform the county into a LOHAS county through the promotion of a "slow travel, slow food, and slow life" concept.

In addition to exploring new travel routes and local creative cultural products, the government constructs a digital database, in the hopes of integrating the county's information on travel, scenic spots, industrial activities, gourmet guides, shops, and film archives.

However, the object of city marketing is not limited to the natives. Internationalization is an inevitable trend. Pingtung County Government understands this and has been actively engaging in international exchange programs. For example, it invites victims of Fukushima nuclear disaster to the A-li tribe of Wutai Township to share their experience of post-disaster reconstruction. The "Asian Paragliding Race" was held at the Saijia Flight Park, attracting paraglidists from 13 countries.


Convenience and a good quality of living are the key indexes for a city to march toward internationalization. That is the purpose for the Pingtung County Government to implement the English Service Emblem Certification Program – building up a bilingual and diversified environment of good quality and friendliness for foreigners to enjoy the convenience as well as that the county offers.

The five major categories of services covered by the project are shopping, lodging and dining, tourism, medical services, and transportation, with 43 different types of service providers receiving certification. By increasing the availability of friendly English services, the English Services Emblem program reduces the language barrier for foreigners in Taiwan, and makes their life here easier and more convenient, and at the same time helps to step up the modernization and international competitiveness of our country's service sector.


The Meaning Behind the English Services Emblem：

The English Services Emblem was designed to enable foreigners to easily identify which establishments offer quality English services. The letter "l" in the word "English" is replaced by an image of the islands of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, to represent the local identity of the service providers. The word "services" is underlined by a smile, to signify the warmth and friendliness of the services. The emblem has either a gold or silver background to indicate the level of English service provided by the certified establishment.
