What is “Duck-Farming Rice”?

Duck-farming Rice is a kind of rice that is produced through a
low-cost organic farming method called “Rice-duck farming.”
With this method, ducks are allowed to forage in the paddy 20
days after the paddy field has just been planted with rice
seedlings, and they will stay there until the flowering stage,
which is about two months later. Ducks eat green things,
including weeds. When they dabble, they make the water murky,
which helps block the sunlight, and slows down the growth of
weeds. If there are pests, they will eat them too.
They also help to soften the soil with their bill and feet
movements. Their droppings also provide natural fertilizer. By
raising ducks in the rice fields, farmers will not need to use
pesticides or chemical fertilizers. It is an ecological way to revive
the land. Moreover, rice that is cultivated this way yields
premium quality.
